Rafter

Privacy

Last updated 10 October 2026

This notice explains what Rafter collects, why we collect it, who sees it, and how you can see or correct it. It covers Rafter's own site and the installer pages we run. It follows the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020.

What we collect and why

  • Your address. We use it to find your home and roof, and to work out your solar estimate. As you type, we send what you type to an address search service to find matches. It may be LINZ or Photon, which is run by komoot in Germany.
  • Your home's location. We send the map position of your home (not your name or address) to the EU's PVGIS service for sunshine data, and to map services for building outlines.
  • Your power bill, if you upload one. We read it to fill in your power use. We don't keep it, unless you send us your details and tick the box to hear from a partner installer. Then we keep it with your enquiry.
  • Your name and email, if you give them. We use them to email you your estimate and keep a record of your enquiry. We also keep the estimate you saw, and your answer to the partner installer box.
  • On an installer's page, your enquiry. Your name, email, address, estimate, and your phone number, notes and power bill if you give them. We collect these to send them to that installer, as the page says before you send.
  • Messages you send us. If you use our contact form, we keep your name, email and message, and use them to reply to you.
  • Anonymous usage counts. For example, how many people finish an estimate. These don't include names, emails or full addresses. We don't collect them if your browser asks not to be tracked.
  • Technical logs. Like most websites, our hosting keeps logs such as IP addresses and the pages requested. We use them to keep the site working and secure.

You don't have to give us your name or email. Without them you can still see and print your estimate.

Who receives it

We don't sell your information.

We pass your details to a solar installer only if you tick the box that says you're happy for a Rafter partner installer near you to contact you. We record that you ticked it and when. We don't have partner installers yet, so for now nobody receives your details from Rafter's own site.

An enquiry you send from an installer's page goes to that installer only. See installer pages below.

We may also share information if the law requires it.

Installer pages

Some solar installers use Rafter for their own estimate page. It shows their name and logo, often at an address like their-name.rafter.co.nz.

When you send your estimate from one of these pages, your enquiry goes to the installer named on the page, and only to them. The page tells you this before you send. We record which installer it went to and when.

Once they receive it, the installer holds your enquiry. They use it to contact you about a quote, and their own privacy policy applies to how they use and keep it. To see or correct what they hold, contact them.

We also keep a copy of each enquiry so we can deliver it and fix problems.

Seeing or correcting your information

You can ask to see the information we hold about you, and ask us to correct it. Send us a message through our contact page or email us at hello@rafter.co.nz. We'll reply as soon as we can, and within 20 working days.
